The first 40 days after birth is an essential period of time to replenish the body. Without proper nourishment we become depleted, causing an array of imbalances in the future. Modern studies focus on the positive impact of implementing certain nutrients to avoid avoid postpartum depletion. We believe food has the capacity to heal.

Our customer service team is available to be reached at all hours and will get back to you within 12 hours.

Refer to our FAQs or get in touch if you have any ordering questions!

Delivery Schedule

We deliver on Sundays, Tuesdays, & Thursdays between 4-10pm for optimal freshness. We’ll notify you of your personal delivery schedule.

Your delivery will include instructions on reheating and daily distribution of items.

As soon as you get your delivered goods place all items in your fridge and/or begin reheating!

We Reuse Everything

Our containers consist of glass jars and BPA-free lids. Your delivery comes in a recyclable box with a premium non-toxic and biodegradable drain-safe ice pack to keep food fresh.

For sustainability purposes we ask you to return all glassware to us by placing the jars from the previous delivery in your most recently received box with ice packs on your doorstep for our drivers to pick up at the time of your next delivery for sanitization and reuse. After your final delivery, we offer a final pick up service!

Storing & Reheating Instructions

All Milky Oat products require refrigeration. These refrigerated items must be kept at a temperature of 41 degrees F or below, and we strongly recommend reheating all items to 165° F.

Microwave Reheat Instructions: All items may be microwaved using a microwave safe plate or bowl on High for 45 seconds - 1 minute. Individual microwaves may vary. Always check temperature as food items may be very hot or need further heating.

Stovetop Reheat Instructions: All items may be reheated on the stove top with an appropriate pot or pan and stirred to bring up to temperature. Soups, stews, and porridges may need an additional splash of water as stirred to loosen.

Don’t sweat the details. We’ll provide reheat instructions with your delivery. These first weeks with your new baby are all we want you focused on, as well as your own recovery, of course!

Please note: We are unable to accommodate aversions to the following ingredients due to their fundamental role in our menu:
onion, garlic, sesame, & quinoa

Daily Caloric Offering

We strive to balance our menu for all needs in early motherhood: especially the increased caloric needs of the breastfeeding mother.

Including our Sips & Snacktation items, each day's menu averages between 2400-2800 calories, balanced between all macronutrient categories for the most complete nutritional experience.

Glycemic Index Sample Menu

Important Choices: We emphasize protein, healthy fats, and whole-food ingredients. These all naturally help manage the glycemic load of your meals.

Balance: Pairing carb-rich meals with low-GI snacks (like Milky Melts) helps stabilize blood sugar throughout the day.

Day 1

Curried Caramelized Onion Frittata: Low GI. Eggs are very low GI, onions have a moderate GI which is lowered by caramelization, and healthy fats ease digestion.

Carrot & Leek Mung Dal: Low to medium GI. Mung beans (especially sprouted) are low GI, as are carrots and leeks. Olive oil helps lower the overall GI.

Chicken Tantan Ramen w/ Tea Eggs: Low GI. Kelp noodles are incredibly low here. Chicken and eggs are low GI. The broth's fat content may lower the overall GI.

Chocolate Gem Lactation Cookies: Medium-high GI. Though ingredients are high quality, a cookie is still a concentrated source of carbohydrates. Natural sugars still have a GI impact, though less than refined sugar.

Day 2

Coconut Yogurt Buckwheat Muesli w/ Cinnamon Apple Compote: Low to medium GI. Buckwheat is lower GI, as is unsweetened coconut yogurt. Apples add a moderate dose of sugars, but fiber keeps it in check.

Creamy Mushroom Soup w/ Cinnamon & Lemon: Low GI. Mushrooms, lemon, cinnamon are all negligible in GI impact. The source of creaminess (coconut yogurt, likely low GI; ) is the key factor.

Lamb Pilaf w/ Toasted Almonds & Apricots: Medium GI. Lamb is low GI, as are almonds. Basmati rice is a bit higher in GI, and dried apricots add a concentrated dose of sugar, raising the GI.

Rose Milky Melts: Low GI due to their fat content.

Omnivore & Vegetarian options available at checkout.

Key Nutrients for Postpartum

At Milky Oat, our mission is to nourish mothers with the nutrients needed to restore the postpartum body. Here are some of the key components of our meals:

Protein

Protein is essential for rebuilding the muscles and cells. We design many of our meals around protein-rich legumes, oats, meats, fish, eggs, nuts, seeds, and ancient grains.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A is important for both visual health and immune function. The World Health Organization recommends a diet rich in Vitamin A for breastfeeding mothers. Found in foods such as eggs, liver, salmon, and mackerel.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C supports a healthy immune system. We provide our mothers with Vitamin C by including foods such as citrus, strawberries, currants, goji berries, and potatoes.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D supports a healthy brain, nervous system, and immune system. It can reduce the risk of postpartum depression and anxiety. Found in salmon, liver, and egg yolks.

DHA

DHA is an important Omega-3 fatty acid which can improve brain and vision development in breastfed babies and plays a role in reducing inflammation and postpartum depression in mothers. Found in salmon, sardines, eggs, and seaweed.

Folate

Folate is needed for production of white and red blood cells and for brain development in breastfeeding babies. Found in broccoli, brussels sprouts, leafy greens, peas, chickpeas, and liver.

Niacin

Niacin has been found to alleviate postpartum depression, improve skin health, and boost brain function. Found in foods such as liver, chicken, turkey, salmon, anchovies, pork, beef, avocado, brown rice, mushrooms, peas, and potatoes.

Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 is necessary for proper red blood cell development and energy production. Goodbye, fatigue! Found in clams, mussels, salmon, beef, and lamb. For breastfeeding vegan/vegetarian mothers, the CDC recommends supplementing B12.

Iodine

Iodine is a trace mineral which supports the thyroid in hormone synthesis. The World Health Organization recommends increasing iodine intake during prenatal and postpartum periods. Found in eggs and seafood.

Iron

It’s important to replenish the body’s iron stores after natural blood and iron loss during pregnancy and childbirth. Breastfeeding mothers need higher iron as it is needed to support both their own bodies and their babies’ development. Red meat, liver, oysters, and leafy greens can all provide mothers with the iron they need. Vegans and vegetarians should check in with your healthcare provider about supplementing additional iron.

Magnesium

Magnesium can support healthy muscle contraction, alleviate anxiety, and encourage healthy bowel movements. Found in nuts, seeds, legumes, quinoa, dark chocolate, and spinach.

Zinc

Zinc supports the body's ability to absorb and metabolize important micronutrients like Vitamin A. It may also help with postpartum depression. Found in oysters, red meat, poultry, nuts, seeds, and legumes.
